The Beatles – Let It Be

When I learn a new song on my guitar I try to get a feel for the riff by playing the chords without the purpose of matching the song note for note, I have found this only frustrates me and can actually make learning harder.

What I try to do is get the timing down of the song first, and worry about getting the actual notes correct as I learn the song on my guitar for the first time.

That is why I chose to do – Let It Be - by the most popular band on the planet – The Beatles . This song was written primarily by Paul McCartney, and once again you can see an example of a world class songwriter that was not afraid to produce a simple song.

Let It Be is a great beginner guitar song since it deals with the the most popular open chords on the guitar – Cmaj -Fmaj -Am – Gmaj.

There is a lead that you can follow along on with you want – it is in the A minor pentatonic scale, and is a classic example of the sliding minor pentatonic scale that is featured in many classic rock songs.

There is also a tricky little bridge in the middle that you should learn, as this is a transition part of the song, but with a little practice you should be able to get the riff down.

If you are a singer, this is an excellent song to showcase your voice, and Let It  Be is pretty much known worldwide, and should be in any beginner guitarists playlist. The History of the Beatles includes some of the most popular songs ever to be written or played on the radio , so finding more to learn should not be hard.

With the legacy of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison have pretty much been written, the band from Liverpool’s website still keeeps up to date and has plenty for Beatle fans to explore.
