Simple Man – Lynyrd Skynyrd

Here is a great song  by Lynyrd Skynyrd, that was covered by Shinedown. Do you know that the band was named after a former teacher who when he pronounced his name it sounded like the band name, instead of his real name, Leonard Skinnard, so the story goes. Here is a video of the Shinedown version of Simple Man.

{C}              {G}         {Am}
My momma told me, when I was young.

{C}                {G}             {Am}
Come sit beside me, my one and only son.

{C}                {G}       {Am}
And listen closely, to what I say.

{C}                {G}                         {Am}
And if you do this, it will help you some sunny day.

Verse 2:

Take you time, don’t live too fast.
Troubles will come, and then they’ll pass.
If you find a woman, you’ll find love.
But don’t forget me my son, there is someone up above.

Chorus:
{C}      {G}           {Am}
And be a simple kind of man.

{C}              {G}              {Am}
Be something you can love and understand.

{C}                {G}         {Am}
Baby, be a simple.  Be a simple man.

{C}                      {G}        {Am}
Won’t you do this for me son, if you can.

Verse 3:

Forget your lust, for the rich man’s gold.
All that you need, is in your soul.
You can do this, if you try.
All that I want for you my son, is to be satisfied.

{Chorus}

{Break}

Oh don’t you worry, you’ll find yourself.
Follow your heart, and nothing else.
Do this for me, at least you should try.
Cause all I want for you my son, is to be satisfied.

 Here is a version of the picking  pattern in the beginning of Simple Man - if you are wondering. Just play with the strumming and get a feel of the song and it will fit right in. Another tip about guitar playing is to find your own style, yes it would be nice to be an exact copy of every song you play, but you will find that most players have a style all their own, while still capturing the essense and structure of any song.
